The Changing Hills of Galloway
This compilation of photographs reflects the uncertain future of Scottish agricultural livelihood, in face of continuous urbanisation and the imposition of farm laws. The lingering misty country scape foreshadows difficult times for farmers attempting to keep up with not only sustaining the necessary output of farmland produce, but also to adapt to the ever-changing economies of society.
A beacon of hope shines over the hills of Galloway, where the McConchie’s continue to push beyond the boundaries of the traditional business of a farm to stay relevant in today’s world. Directed by a younger generation, tourism and recreation becomes the farm’s new focus in bid to diversify a long-standing way of life that is slowly becoming obsolete.
